Tough it Out - Episode 5
by Ava Conway
Lynn — seriously, what the hell?
Lynn puts Drake back in the seat.
I can explain.
This better be good.
I can’t believe this — I trusted you.
And you can still trust me.
You have five minutes—
I’ll only need two.
Lynn nods to Drake.
I was taking him out of the chair because we don’t need him anymore.
I know who’s supplying those other guys with their drugs.
Who is it?
I’m gonna make them wish they were dead.
Exactly.
That’s why we need to target the distributor — not this guy.
This guy no longer matters.
The group he belongs to doesn’t even matter.
What?
Lynn glances at Foxy.
She doesn’t want to out her friend…
But the alternative — letting Drake die - would kill her.
They’ve been through so much together.
And she…cares about him. More than she’s willing to admit.
He had saved her life on the last mission.
Now it was time for her to save his.
Because there’s someone dirty — right in this room.
Isn’t there, Foxy?
Foxy looks surprised and steps back.
I don’t know what you’re talking about.
Lynn holds up the ring.
You got this ring as a gift, didn’t you?
It was a gift from your boyfriend…
The one who’s orchestrating this little turf war.
Foxy glances around.
I don’t know what you’re talking about.
Your boyfriend gave you this ring, didn’t he?
Yeah, so?
He gave it to you as a thank you for helping him establish his group in L.A.
You pretended to be one of us and led us in the wrong direction…
While he expanded his territory and sold his rapture on our streets.
What? That’s — that’s not true.
Lynn turns to Jax.
You had a feeling about her.
Remember what you said to me?
Watch out for Foxy — after all, foxes work alone.
You said foxes are cunning and heartless.
And now here she is — helping someone else sell rapture…
Right in our territory.
No, you have it all wrong.
I didn’t know about the rapture. He was using me to—
You little bitch.
Get her!
Chaos ensues but before anyone can touch her…
Foxy jumps over Jax and hurries out the door.
You two, come with me.
The rest of you, stay here with Lynn and kill the prisoner.
Kill him?
Yes, we want to send a message to anyone who tries to sell in our territory.
Nobody fucks with me.
Lynn whips out her phone as Jax and his entourage leave.
Ruby — send backup. STAT!
What’s going on?
I found Drake.
Lynn glances up from her phone to see Drake being secured to the chair once more.
Her eyes widen —
Two of the toughest members, Jagger and Brock, each have their hands on him.
They’re going to kill him!
Hang tight. The cavalry is coming.
Hurry!
Panic seizes Lynn’s chest as she hears Brock’s menacing voice fill the room.
How should we kill ‘em boss?
I vote for nice and slow.
No.
Lynn pockets her phone.
We need to wait.
Why? You heard Jax’s orders.
Jagger takes out a knife.
I’m gonna cut him first.
No.
Lynn realizes she’s hopelessly outnumbered.
There are at least ten other gang members in the room.
Jagger runs the blade across Drake’s cheek.
Drake stiffens in pain as blood drips down his skin.
Shit.
Lynn pulls out her gun.
Nobody move.
She’s got a gun…in THIS room?
But the boss doesn’t want guns…
Everyone turns toward Lynn.
Who the hell are you?
The bitch who’s about to arrest you.
Lynn shows him her badge.
Nobody move.
She’s a goddamn Fed — get her!
The gang quickly overtakes Lynn.
Several shots go into the air, but no one is hit.
The gang ties up Lynn and puts her next to Drake.
Drake whispers to her.
That was stupid.
You should have let me die.
Shut up.
It’s like talking to Diana all over again.
Nobody’s going to die.
This isn’t over yet.
Don’t do anything stupid.
She flexes her fingers as Jagger approaches her with a knife.
I told you — I’m not like Diana.
I’m tougher than that.
I can outlast this.
Jagger leans in and places the knife on her cheek.
You know, I never liked you.
Oh yeah? I never liked you, either.
Lynn head-butts Jagger causing him to drop the knife in surprise.
Drake catches it between his tied hands, before it hits the floor.
He uses it to undo the zip ties around their wrists.
C-1 o’clock
Drake recognizes the command for jump and catapults himself over the gang member directly in front of him.
AA-6 o’clock
He spins around, assaulting the gang member with two quick crossbody punches to the chin.
Lynn! B on your 3!
Lynn spins to her right, swinging her leg out in a kick.
After she takes out her assailant at the knees, she dives in for an attack.
Both Drake and Lynn rely on their training code as they protect each other’s backs.
Together, they kill the gang members one by one.
As soon as the last gang member falls, backup arrives.
You’re a little late, guys.
Jesus. Couldn’t you save someone for me to hurt?
Drake stumbles to the ground.
Lynn rushes to his side.
Does anybody know first aid?
We need some help over here!
Two men come forward as Ruby calls for an ambulance.
We can take it from here.
Lynn steps back as the men do their best to patch Drake up.
After securing make-shift bandages, they give Lynn and Drake some privacy.
You shouldn’t have blown your cover like that.
I had no choice. You were going to die.
Yeah, but you risked your life doing it.
And I’d rather I die than you.
Don’t say that.
Why not? It’s the truth.
Well, it doesn’t matter now. Both of our covers are blown.
No, YOUR cover is blown.
You can’t possibly be thinking about going back into the field right now.
You look like shit.
I have to go back.
Now that we’ve located Foxy, I can draw the Honduras supplier out of seclusion.
We’re about to shut this whole thing down.
I know it.
Lynn stares at him for a long moment.
Then she takes off her fox ring and hands it to him.
You’re right.
I am?
I mean, of course I am.
If we want any chance of catching this Honduras supplier, you have to go back.
Drake curls his fingers around the ring.
Don’t do anything stupid.
You mean like risk my life?
It’s part of the job. You know that.
Lynn works her jaw, but says nothing.
The door bursts open as the paramedics rush in.
Tears sting Lynn’s eyes.
She steps back as they work on Drake.
This mission is so dangerous.
How will Drake survive next time, when Lynn isn’t there to watch his back?
He’s going to die out there alone — and there’s nothing she can do about it.
Frustrated, she paces away.
There has to be some way to help him.
And damn it, she’s going to find it.
