Trevor and the Virgin - Episode 4
by Kayla Parent
The room erupts with hoots and hollers at my response.
Trevor throws an arm around my shoulder and leans toward me.
His breath is warm on my face.
Another surprise.
I’m impressed, Martha.
Tilla, however, isn’t amused.
I avoid her furious expression and look at Drew.
He can’t take his eyes off me.
My heart thumps in my chest as I meet his gaze.
I smile, thinking of the second rule.
He smiles back.
One second…
Two seconds…
Well, you’ve definitely got his attention now.
Trevor removes his arm from around my shoulders.
I’m about to respond but he cuts me off.
Your turn, Martha.
My turn?
Oh! Right.
I can’t help it — my eyes go back to Drew.
Drew, drink or dare?
His eyes flare as they scan my face.
Drink.
I think of Trevor’s third rule.
This is my chance.
Can I put it all on the line?
This wouldn’t exactly be a casual touch like Trevor advised…
But I can finally do what I’ve been thinking about since freshman year.
I’m going to do it.
I’m.
Going.
To.
Do.
It!
Drink with me.
The words come out in a whisper, but Drew hears them and his eyes light up.
It would be my pleasure.
There’s a pounding in my ears as I watch him get up.
He doesn’t let go of my gaze as he grabs a shot from the table.
Oh my god.
This is happening!
Trevor has gone still beside me.
His face is unreadable.
I force my eyes back to Drew.
This is — wait…why is he walking like that?
It’s like…a smoldering stripper walk or something.
HA! Who does he think he is? Magic Mike?
I slap Trevor lightly on the arm.
Quiet, you!
But he’s right. It is a bit…over the top.
I hear Trevor scoff again beside me but this time I ignore him.
I take the shot from Drew’s outstretched hand.
So how do you want to do this?
He winks at me.
Rookie’s choice.
I’m a bit thrown off by the second wink of the night, but I manage to find the words.
I’ll just, um…
I pour it in my mouth.
Oh god, it’s gross, so gross!
But then Drew’s mouth is on mine.
He ignores the shot and I’m forced to swallow it.
YUCK!
Then his tongue is slithering around in my mouth.
People are cheering.
His lips are dry.
…And aggressive.
He’s trying too hard.
But it’s Drew!
This is what I wanted!
For a few moments I concentrate on that fact.
Then I pull away.
The first thing I do is look at Trevor.
He looks as if he’s trying not to laugh.
I’ll be right back.
He puts down his unopened beer and walks away.
Drew immediately sits down.
Sorry.
I hope I didn’t make things weird between you two.
No, you couldn’t.
Trevor and I are just friends.
He was kidding about me being his girlfriend.
Good to know.
He moves in closer to me.
It’s really nice to see you again, by the way.
I always wondered what you got up to after that class.
Never saw you around.
That statement doesn’t ring true.
I’ve seen him plenty of times around campus, and he’s always looked right through me.
But I smile at him now anyway.
And then the unthinkable happens.
So I’d love to hang sometime.
You know, just you and I.
Really??
Really.
Can I have your number?
On instinct, I grin widely.
Drew Longhorn asked for my number!
It’s a dream come true.
It’s everything I ever wanted.
…Right?
Either way, I have to thank Trevor for his help.
I couldn’t have done this without him.
He’s probably going to be so proud of himself.
I can see his smirk now.
Martha? What do you say?
I force my mind back to the present.
Yes, definitely.
Trevor has my phone, though.
I’ll run and get it.
He nods, and I feel his eyes on me as I leave the room.
I breathe a sigh of relief when I’m in the hallway.
Where’s Trevor?
I search the rooms but can’t find him.
Is he with someone?
I have the urge to barge in on all the closed doors.
He has my phone, after all.
I tamp that urge down and return to the dining room instead…
And the shot I had nearly comes up my throat.
Tilla is on Drew’s lap.
They’re making out.
