Snakebite - Part 3
by Craig Pearson
How many of the snakes do you have?
10.
So there’s 2 left.
I just heard Daria scream!
And the gun went off!
OMG…
Oh no.
She must have shone her flashlight on a snake.
And it attacked her.
And she killed it.
Em, there’s no more time. She’ll kill you next.
I’m going to the behavioral testing room!
I can lock the snakes inside.
I can hear you running for your life, kiddo.
There’s nowhere to hide.
Turn off your flashlight!
The snakes are sensitive to bright light!
You think I'm an idiot, don’t you?
You’re just trying to stay hidden.
If you don’t show yourself, I’m gonna hunt you down.
And if the snakes don’t kill you first…
Then, I will.
James - I locked myself and the 10 snakes in the testing room.
Where is Daria?
She’s coming down the corridor!
What will you do if she shoots out the lock?
Maybe I can wedge your bat between the door handles?
Yes. Try it!
I need to lock the snakes in a cage first.
If she shines that light in here, it’s over.
Come on, Em. Hurry. You got this.
I locked them inside.
But she’s breaking through the door!
No!
I can see the light!
The snakes are going berserk.
Stay back!
I’m in the shadows.
But… OMG!
She’s firing her gun into the cage!
This is terrible. Em,
I’m so sorry.
Wait. One of the snakes just opened the lock.
They’re jumping out at her!
Oh no.
They’re all over her! What do I do?
You have to knock out the flashlight!
How?
USE THE BAT!!
Em?
I did it.
It’s dark again.
But Daria…
She’s bitten all over.
Em - that venom acts fast.
She will die in under two minutes.
I can’t let her die.
Even if she deserves it!
You need to find the anti-venom.
It’s in a cabinet in the maintenance room.
I’m running.
Can you even see where you’re going?
I remember the way.
Look for a glass bottle in the big cabinet.
There are syringes next to it.
I’m in the maintenance room…
The cabinet is locked!
Can you break in?
I’m trying!
Oh god, oh god…
Em, I’m so sorry.
We did our best.
Wait.
I see something.
It’s the 12th snake.
It’s there in the room with you?
Yes.
It’s…it’s crawling up my body…
And onto the cabinet…
James.
It unlocked the door.
Wow. I can’t believe it.
Okay, Em. You have about thirty seconds.
Fill a syringe with the anti-venom and give Daria the injection.
GO!
I did it.
I think it’s working.
I just called an ambulance.
Just let me help Daria to the door.
We can’t let the light in.
I’m going to drive to the hospital and meet you.
James…
Thank you.
I’m not the hero here. You are.
You saved the snakes AND Daria.
Well, she’s still going to jail.
Illegal experimentation…
Animal abuse…
She’ll be locked up for sure.
But the snakes don’t have to live as prisoners.
We can design a new facility for them.
Keep them in the dark, safe.
No more experiments.
And what about us?
We can figure that out later.
Maybe we publish the results of the genetic tests?
Make sure this sort of thing never happens again.
No, James.
What about US?
I guess that’s up to you.
I still want to be with you.
Em, I love you.
Always have.
Always will.
I’ve always loved you too, James…
But I need you to promise me one thing.
Anything.
No more keeping me in the dark.
