The Clowns - Official - Part 3
by Craig Pearson
I know what bait will draw in the clowns.
Think about it. We’re outcasts.
Stop saying “we.”
The clowns want to get revenge on everyone who snubbed them.
That means the popular kids.
The perfect ones.
People like you.
What’s that supposed to mean?
You’re the most beautiful girl in school.
You’re our best chance to lure the clowns!
They won’t be able to resist the opportunity to bring you down.
So what are you suggesting exactly??
I just lie down and let them gas me?
No.
We put you at the top of Splash Mountain.
You can climb up the maintenance ladder and stand above the waterfall.
The clowns will try to surround you by standing under the net.
And we’ll cut the net and trap them.
How will they know I’m there?
Because I’ll tell them.
They still think I’m one of them, remember?
This sounds risky.
It is.
We’ll have to cut the net on both sides at EXACTLY the same time.
Otherwise it won’t fall fast enough…
and the clowns will scatter.
How will you cut both sides of the net at the same time?
With the help of your best friend ☺
OMG I forgot about Lauren!
Where is she??
She’s right here next to me. She’ll be perfect.
I don’t want you to put her in any more danger ☹
Lauren can handle it.
If she can handle a sculpting knife, she can cut through a rope.
Since when did you know Lauren sculpts?
I thought that was her secret hobby.
I told you…I’m quiet.
I listen.
I hear things.
We don’t have time to waste, Ariel.
Are you in or not?
Alright.
I’ll meet you at Splash Mountain.
Are you sure you’re okay with Drew’s plan?
I don’t trust him.
How do we know he’s not just luring both of us into a trap?
You don’t have to trust him.
But you trust me, right?
Of course.
How far are you guys from Splash Mountain?
Not far now. I can see the waterfall.
I don’t see clowns anywhere.
Just disfigured people.
Although you can barely tell the difference…
Drew just sent out a group text to the clowns.
They’re all on their way to the waterfall.
I’m almost there.
Drew and I are splitting up.
When we’re in position, he’ll give me the signal.
Just make sure you’re at the top of that waterfall where everyone can see you.
I feel disgusting.
I had no idea so many people hated me.
It’s not you. It’s what you represent.
What do you mean?
Lauren??
Drew? I’m at the bottom of the waterfall.
Great. Walk behind the waterfall.
You’ll see a door…
Between the falling water and the rock wall...
It’s the maintenance entrance.
I see it!
It should be unlocked.
I’m inside!
Get up the stairs FAST. The clowns are coming.
None of them want to miss this.
I’m climbing up as fast as I can.
It’s dark in here.
Wait…
Someone’s in here.
Who?
It’s a girl, about my age.
She’s wearing a deformed clown mask…and crying.
She’s curled up in a ball on the steps…and rocking back and forth.
And whispering the word…
“Ew”
over and over and over…
I think she’s lost her mind.
Don’t waste time. Get up there now!
We need to be perfectly synchronized…
Or our plan will fail.
Are you there?
Lauren??
I can’t get in touch with Lauren.
Don’t worry, she’ll follow through.
She always does.
Is that you? I think I see you!
I’m at the top.
I’m standing on the rock ledge, overlooking the falls.
I can see everything. The whole carnival is on fire.
People are running wild, crying, screaming.
It’s like hell.
Just focus. We’ll get through this.
Drew, in case this doesn’t work…
I want you to know something.
The plan will work. I promise.
I just want to apologize.
I know I make a big deal of getting the perfect photo.
But it’s only because I want to remember the times we have together.
I never realized that taking photos of you, of your face, might make you feel insecure…
Or come across as superficial…
But Drew, I love you exactly the way you are.
And I think your beauty is the best kind.
Drew?
Abort the plan.
Are you reading me??
I’ve changed my mind.
I’m cutting the net, like I told her I would.
You have to help me.
Ready?
Lauren, are you ready?
All the clowns are below us!
We can change the plan!
We have to save her.
LAUREN??
Sorry, Drew…
But it’s too late.
Hey Ari.
Drew isn’t replying to me!
Are you guys okay??
Remember freshman year, at Homecoming?
You went with some football player…
And I was serving drinks.
I remember going…
But I thought you stayed home that year?
One of the student helpers called in sick, so I came to fill in.
What is this about Lauren?
And I saw you walking by the table, and just as I was about to say hi…
Your date said…
“Aren’t you friends with Lauren B.?”
And do you remember what you said?
I don’t remember any of this…
“Ew.”
You said, “Ew.”
Like I was disgusting to you.
You know I didn’t mean that…
Ari, you’re lucky you know.
Somebody like me has to sculpt with wet clay for days to create something beautiful.
And you?
You were just born that way.
And what do you do with your beauty?
You just post photo after photo.
I think you need to learn what it’s like for the rest of us.
That was you in the stairwell…
You were waiting for me to climb up here.
You’ve been part of this all along!
Ugly people like Drew and me, we have to stick together.
This was never a trap for the clowns.
It was a trap for me.
Look down there, at the clowns.
See all the pretty lights?
Those are cameras.
You know what to do when you see a camera…
Look right into the lens…
And smile.
Drew help me!!!
Cut the ropalskejsrlkj
I can’t, Ariel! I’m only on one side!
Ariel!
Oh my god.
Lauren, did you push her?
I just saw a girl fall off the waterfall!
Hello?
LAUREN!
Drew?
Ariel! You’re okay!
But I thought I saw you…
It wasn’t me. It was Lauren.
She told me everything.
You planned this all along, didn’t you?
She came up with the idea to dress up like clowns…
To disfigure people and reveal their true nature.
But in the end, it was all about you.
I should never have gone along with it.
I just wanted you to look a little more like me…
Because then, maybe…
I would be worthy of you.
But I got it all wrong. Oh god, what did I do??
I’m so glad you’re safe, and still beautiful.
Am I?
The police just got here!
How did Lauren fall?? What happened?!
She was climbing up the rock toward me…
Preparing to gas me all over.
But just as she pressed the nozzle on the canister…
She slipped.
It was just as you were cutting the net.
She managed to grab hold of the net as it fell to one side.
I can see her right now…dangling there.
But as she slipped…she kept her finger pressed down on the canister...
And the gas hit the side of my face.
Now I have a mark on my cheek…
Just like you.
Ariel, I’m so sorry.
I almost believed you Drew.
You know everything I said was true.
I was telling the truth too. I never felt like I deserved you.
But I listened. And I believe you now.
I want us to be together.
I can see the police lights. They’re going to arrest you, and Lauren too.
I don’t care about that. I only care about you.
That’s what I used to think.
Drew, you were always worthy of me.
But tonight, you revealed your true self.
No more lies. Only truth.
Now that you look like me, there’s no more hiding for either of us.
We can be the perfect couple.
Sorry, Drew.
But you’re ugly to me now.
