Up here, it’s always dark.
The air is so thin you can barely breathe.
And if that doesn’t get to you…
The subzero temperatures will.
Max and I trek up the mountain.
Snow crunches under our feet.
Charlie and Rebecca left 3 days ago.
We haven’t heard from them since.
Ava
Ava
It can’t be much further.
Max
Max
According to the map…
Max
Max
They should be a mile up.
A mile up…
Every mile feels like 10.
And honestly, I’m starting to worry.
They were supposed to radio us.
The plan was simple:
They would make base camp…
And then we would join them.
Together, we’d climb to the top.
Even for experienced climbers…
It’s a hard journey.
The blizzards on this mountain can be deadly.
20 years ago a plane went down.
It’s still buried here somewhere…
Full of frozen corpses.
Max
Max
There’s Charlie’s tent!
Up ahead, I see the base camp.
Ava
Ava
Thank god!
Ava
Ava
My feet are going numb.
Max
Max
Me too!
Max
Max
We’ll make a fire.
We head towards the tent.
Ava
Ava
Hey guys!
Ava
Ava
We’re home!
I unzip the tent and peer inside.
Ava
Ava
Hello?
It’s completely empty.
Max
Max
Where are they?
Ava
Ava
Scouting ahead, maybe?
The tent tells a different story.
The place is in shambles.
Sleeping bags have been scattered.
Rations have been left behind.
And then I see it:
Rebecca’s hiking boot.
Ava
Ava
Oh my god.
Ava
Ava
Max…
I point it out to him.
Max
Max
This doesn’t make sense.
I start to shake.
Ava
Ava
What’s going on?
Max grabs me by the shoulders.
Max
Max
This is no time to panic.
Max
Max
We need to stay calm.
Max
Max
I’m sure they’re fine.
Ava
Ava
It doesn’t look like they’re fine!
Max
Max
Let’s keep moving.
Max
Max
We’ll search for tracks.
We step out of the tent.
The wind is really kicking up.
It’s getting hard to see.
Ava
Ava
I don’t see any tracks!
Max
Max
There’s too much snow.
Max
Max
Here, hold my hand.
I grasp his glove.
The whole world is turning white.
Ava
Ava
We should get back inside!
We turn to head for the tent.
But it’s too late.
The wind howls…
The posts are yanked from the ground.
Suddenly, the tent goes flying.
It disappears into the flurry.
Max
Max
Woah!
Ava
Ava
What do we do?!
A blast of wind picks me up off my feet.
I hit the ground hard.
Ava
Ava
Max!
I reach for his hand.
Max
Max
Hold on!
He’s knocked to the ground.
I crawl desperately towards him.
Hail pelts me in the face.
I can barely see where I’m going.
The snow starts to pile onto me.
I can hear Max screaming.
Max
Max
Ahhhh!
Ava
Ava
Where are you!
Ava
Ava
What’s wrong!
Then I hear something…
Something terribly off.
Max
Max
Get away from me!
Max
Max
WHO ARE YOU!
Max
Max
Ahhhh!
His screams trail off until…
Ava
Ava
MAX!
I claw myself out of the snow…
Fighting with everything I’ve got.
Tears freeze as they run down my cheeks.
What is happening?
I’ve got to keep going.
Gradually, the snow subsides…
And my vision clears.
Max is gone.
He’s nowhere to be found.
Ava
Ava
Hello!
Ava
Ava
Anyone!
I hang my head in despair.
I have no map…
No supplies…
No hope…
And then I see it:
Max’s glove.
And beside it, dug into the snow…
Are shoe tracks.
They’re heading up the mountain.
I’ve got to keep going.
Anything could be ahead.
I pull out my ice axe.
Ava
Ava
I can do this.
I’m finding my friends…
If it’s the last thing I do.
I move slowly up the mountain.
My heart beats heavy.
I follow the tracks up an incline.
They vanish right into a snowy hill.
There’s something off about that hill.
It shines silver…
And it’s long and cylindrical…
Ava
Ava
Oh my god.
It’s an airplane.
It must be the one that crashed…
I follow the tracks closer.
I smell something.
It smells like a burning fire.
I pull on the metal door of the plane.
It’s so heavy and cold.
It creaks open.
I step inside the dark plane.
I can barely see anything.
I click on my headlamp.
The light hits one of the seats.
I stifle a scream.
I see a dead passenger…
Frozen…
Still strapped to his seat.
It’s the most awful thing I’ve ever seen.
Then there’s a sound from the cockpit.
Something is shifting.
For a second, I can’t move.
But I can’t let fear get to me now.
I raise my axe into the air.
I pass by row after row of frozen bodies.
Their faces are frosted over…
Locked into expressions of icy terror.
I get closer to the cockpit.
The seats up here are empty…
Almost like the bodies have been moved.
And then I hear it…
Rebecca
Rebecca
Ava!
Rebecca
Rebecca
Is that you?!
Ava
Ava
Rebecca?
Her voice is music to my ears.
Rebecca
Rebecca
Help me!
She’s tied to the pilot’s chair.
There’s no sign of anyone else.
Rebecca
Rebecca
He’s a monster!
Rebecca
Rebecca
He’s gone mad!
Ava
Ava
Who’s he?
Rebecca breaks down crying.
Rebecca
Rebecca
Charlie’s dead.
Rebecca
Rebecca
He ATE him.
My heart drops.
Ava
Ava
What are you talking about?
Ava
Ava
Who!?
She looks at me with glassy eyes.
Rebecca
Rebecca
The survivor…
Ava
Ava
Where is Max?
I grip my axe and cut Rebecca loose.
Rebecca
Rebecca
Follow me!
She kicks open the exit door.
Black smoke rises into the sky…
A fire pit roars.
Max lays next to it, bound and gagged.
Ava
Ava
Max!
I run over and cut him free.
Ava
Ava
Are you okay?
He looks over my shoulder…
And lets out a muffled scream.
I feel a hot breath on my neck.
Rebecca
Rebecca
Look out!
I spin around to see…
A man who looks more like an animal.
His face is hidden…
His hair and beard are matted with snow.
His eyes are wild.
He growls.
Ava
Ava
Ahh!
He shoves me to the ground.
My axe flies into the snow.
He grabs Rebecca by the arm…
And bites into her.
Rebecca
Rebecca
HELP!
I search desperately for my axe.
Got it.
The man bites down harder.
Blood pours from his mouth.
I lunge at him with a wild swing.
The axe sinks into his back.
He howls in pain, hitting the ground.
Ava
Ava
Let’s go!
Rebecca, Max, and I take off.
We run for our lives.
The man cries out behind us.
We rush down the mountain…
Holding each other’s hands.
There’s darkness all around.
But together…
We’ll make it down.
At least we’re not alone.
Not like the survivor…
Still up there…
His only company the frozen strangers…
Waiting to become his dinner.
